GOODING, Idaho (AP) - Hazard mitigation crews are cleaning up at a charter school in Gooding following a small mercury spill.

North Valley Academy officials tell The Times-News (https://bit.ly/N7oEfS) that about 1 once of mercury was found Tuesday under a heater and reported Wednesday morning.

School officials say classes proceeded as normal but negligible traces of mercury were found on the shoes of four of the 242 students. Those students had to leave their footwear at school.

School Board Chairwoman Deby Infanger says no mercury is used inside the school. She suspects a student brought in the substance.

Infanger says a cleanup crew will be at the school again on Thursday.
