MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - A man who killed two children in a crash in Meriden last year is facing up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving charges.

Twenty-eight-year-old Israel Gonzalez took a plea deal Wednesday in Meriden Superior Court. He’s expected to be sentenced to a decade behind bars followed by five years of probation April 21.

Police say the Meriden resident’s blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit and his SUV was going 100 miles an hour when it plowed into a car at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 3.

The crash killed 5-year-old Tatiana Cruz and 8-year-old Lorenzo Cruz. The children’s parents and a 12-year-boy in their car also were injured, as was Gonzalez.

Gonzalez declined to comment at the court hearing.
