PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities haven’t been able to determine what caused two experienced skydivers to collide over south-central Arizona last November before their parachutes collapsed and they fell to their deaths.
Eloy Police Department records obtained by The Arizona Republic (https://bit.ly/N79J5u ) indicate that investigators only determined that equipment failure was not to blame.
The skydivers were about 250 feet above the ground when they collided Nov. 3 as part of a mass jump.
Bernd Schmehl, of Germany, was pronounced dead at the scene and Keiron O’Rourke, of the United Kingdom, died later at Casa Grande Regional Hospital.
An Eloy Police Department spokesman did not immediately return calls Thursday asking for the hometowns of the two victims.
