WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) - A 53-year-old Watertown man will not be allowed to hunt or guide for two years for the unlawful taking of migratory birds and Lacey Act Violations.
KWAT radio reports that U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Roger Meyer and his Meyer Guide Service on two occasions in 2008 and 2009 encouraged hunters to exceed their daily limit of ducks. Following the hunts, the ducks were not tagged properly and transported in violation of federal law.
Meyer has been sentenced to 2 years of unsupervised probation and no hunting or guiding for 2 years. He also must pay $550 in restitution to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a $3,000 fine and $35 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
