PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A nonprofit group will be renovating a landmark 1867 mansion in Providence after winning $197,000 in state historic tax credits.
Community Works Rhode Island intends to rehabilitate the Kendrick-Prentice-Tirocchi House on the city’s West Side and convert it into three affordable apartments and a large owner’s unit. The mansion is also known as the wedding-case house.
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/Ozm2bR ) the project will cost nearly $1 million. Community Works bought the property for $210,000 in 2011 after a foreclosure and plans to put it back on the market for $699,000 after the renovations.
The three-story Italianate house was built for a loom harnesses manufacturer. It was the workshop of dress designers Anna and Laura Tirocchi from 1915 to 1947.
The house is part of the Broadway-Armory National Register District.
