PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson County grand jury has indicted a former jail detainee for manslaughter in the March death of another man in the jail.

Prosecutors tell The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1gC0McM ) that Dionte Rayshawn Jones is charged in the death of Anthony Eugene Moore. An autopsy showed Moore died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Authorities says Jones was on the phone with a family member in the jail’s day room when Moore walked by and Jones hit him in the jaw, knocking him unconscious. Moore later died.

Jones had been in the jail since June on charges of armed robbery, commercial burglary and misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana. Jones has since been convicted of two burglary charges.

If convicted of the manslaughter charge, he faces up to 20 years.
