MANCHESTER, Iowa (AP) - A judge has recessed a sentencing hearing until March in the case of a Manchester teenager convicted last year of killing his grandparents.
The judge heard testimony Wednesday from Isaiah Sweet, his relatives, attorneys and a psychologist called by the defense.
Sweet pleaded guilty in October to two counts of first-degree murder in the May 12, 2012, killings of his grandparents, Richard and Janet Sweet. In exchange, all other charges were dropped and the sentences for the murder convictions were to be served concurrently.
Defense attorneys are seeking a 25-year sentence with a chance of parole. Prosecutors want a life sentence without parole.
Sweet asked the judge to consider his age when making the sentencing decision.
The hearing was recessed until March 11.
