BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) - The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate has died at the county jail.

Sheriff Rick Silver says jail employees found an unresponsive inmate at about 2 a.m. Wednesday in a holding cell. Authorities say the man did not have a pulse and wasn’t breathing.

The sheriff says the employees immediately began to administer CPR, but the inmate was pronounced dead once emergency responders arrived.

Authorities say the man may have suffered some type of medical distress leading to his death. The state medical examiner’s office will determine the official cause of death.

The inmate’s name hasn’t been released, pending notification of his relatives.
