EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A groundbreaking ceremony has been set for next month to start construction of a 12-story hotel and apartment complex in downtown Evansville.
The mayor’s office says the ceremony will be on March 10. It was first planned for January, but was delayed because underground moorings hadn’t been removed during demolition of a parking garage on the site.
The new 257-room Hilton Doubletree hotel will serve the city’s convention center. The $71 million project was subject of a long debate between the mayor and city council last year over the size of the city’s subsidy.
The project will also have a 78-unit apartment tower, a parking garage and sky bridges to the convention center and the nearby Ford Center arena. Completion is expected in the fall of 2015.
