NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (AP) - A firefighter and a resident were injured when a smoky fire broke out in a unit at a high-rise senior citizen apartment building in northern New Jersey.

It’s not yet clear what sparked the blaze, which apparently started shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday in the bedroom of a ninth-floor apartment at the Westview Towers in North Bergen.

The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/1exmpsr) reports that firefighters found heavy smoke on several floors, but the blaze was brought under control in about 40 minutes.

The firefighter was treated at a hospital for exhaustion, while the resident suffered smoke inhalation. Authorities said neither injury was considered serious.
