MALVERN, Ark. (AP) - A man charged in the killing of a Hot Springs Village police dispatcher has been sentenced to six years in prison for violating the terms of his probation from an unrelated case.
Kevin Duck received the maximum sentence Tuesday for violating terms of his probation from an unrelated 2009 aggravated assault conviction. Duck is now charged with first-degree murder for the 2011 death of his girlfriend, police dispatcher Dawna Natzke.
Officials recommended revoking Duck’s probation after his arrest last November on the murder charge. Duck has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and that case is set to go to trial in July.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1hfJW65 ) that Duck was also accused of violating his probation by not reporting an address change to his probation officer and for not seeking permission to travel out of state.
His attorney, Clay Janske, says Duck had acquired a Louisiana driver’s license and had addresses in Hot Springs and Louisiana because he was working on pipelines. Each time Duck went back and forth for work, he needed to get permission, Janske said.
Duck had received 14 work permits from probation officials in the last year and a half, Janske said.
“They’ve always been approved,” Janske said.
Natzke, a mother of three, disappeared after a Christmas party and her body was found on New Year’s Eve 2011. An autopsy found that Natzke, 46, died from blunt force trauma and drowning, according to an autopsy report. A medical examiner said Natzke died within three to four hours of leaving the holiday party.
