FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Federal and local authorities say 29 people are facing charges in connection with a drug trafficking ring in northwestern New Mexico.
The investigation culminated early Wednesday when Homeland Security agents and members of a regional drug task force arrested 26 of the defendants.
Two others were arrested during the course of the investigation and one defendant remains a fugitive. Some defendants are facing federal charges while others have been charged with state crimes.
The charges are the result of Operation Brown Ice, a yearlong investigation that initially targeted a methamphetamine trafficking ring that distributed meth throughout San Juan County.
Wednesday’s raid included the execution of more than a dozen search warrants at homes, businesses and a storage unit in the area. Agents seized numerous guns and drugs.
