MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Tuesday, the 17th meeting day of the regular session:
- The House Health Committee approved four bills putting new restrictions on abortion, including a proposal to ban abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected.
HOUSE:
- Approved a bill aimed at allowing low-cost spay/neuter clinics to continue to operate in the state. Goes to Senate.
SENATE:
-Discussed, but did not vote on a bill to require drug testing of some welfare applicants.
AGENDA:
-House Education Policy Committee meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday in room 418 of the Statehouse to consider a bill saying that school systems should make factors other than seniority the primary criteria during layoffs.
-House Elections and Campaign Finance Committee meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in room 622 to consider changes to state ethics law and restrictions on lobbying activity by former public officials.
-Ways and Means-General Fund Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 617 to consider legislation to require circuit and district courts to accept credit card and debit card payments.
-Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee meets at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in room 727 to consider the state education budget.
-Senate Judiciary Committee meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday in room 325 for a public hearing on a bill affecting carrying a gun in a vehicle without a pistol permit.
- House meets at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Senate at 3 p.m.
