HANCOCK, Mich. (AP) - An autopsy has found that smoke inhalation caused the death of a 50-year-old Upper Peninsula man who assaulted his girlfriend and set his house on fire.
The attack happened about 5 p.m. Friday in Hancock.
Houghton County medical examiner Dr. Dawn Nulf told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Dennis Foreman died from breathing smoke in the fire that he set.
Police tell the Daily Mining Gazette of Houghton Foreman man assaulted his girlfriend before starting the blaze. Sheriff’s deputies entered the house with shields and found him and the woman.
Authorities say emergency crews took both to Portage Health, where Foreman man was declared dead and the woman was treated for a head injury and released.
