LAS VEGAS (AP) - A San Diego man was sentenced to five to 20 years in prison for driving drunk and causing a crash near the Las Vegas Strip that killed a woman celebrating her 21st birthday with her mother.
The mother, Cynthia Konarski, spoke during sentencing Monday for 35-year-old Edris Ghani in Clark County District Court.
KLAS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1hOXhoV ) Konarski described how the 4 a.m. crash in December 2010 killed her daughter, Christina Konarski, and left her with a paralyzed arm.
Police said the mom and daughter were stopped at a traffic signal on Tropicana Avenue when a speeding Mercedes-Benz CLS550 slammed into their Mercury Sable from behind.
Ghani and a passenger, Shakeeb Azizi of Temecula, Calif., escaped serious injury.
Ghani pleaded guilty in October to DUI causing death or substantial bodily harm.
