Raceland man struck, killed by pickup truck

HOUMA, La. (AP) - A Raceland man was struck and killed after walking into the path of a pickup truck.

Police say it happened Saturday night on Louisiana Highway 1.

The Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1epmdev ) that 55-year-old Kenneth Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

State police said the accident happened on Louisiana 1 just north of U.S. Highway 90 around 7 p.m.

Police said Hughes was walking across the dimly lit road while wearing dark clothing.

The pickup’s 19-year-old driver was tested for alcohol, as is required in fatal crashes, but alcohol use was not suspected.
