DETROIT (AP) - A 17-year-old Detroit prep football star is expected to face trial in the assault of a security guard who was slammed to the floor after telling him to remove his hood in school.
Jayru Campbell waived his preliminary examination Monday. A March 10 circuit court arraignment is scheduled.
He is charged with felony and misdemeanor assault in the Jan. 22 incident that was caught on video in a Cass Technical High School hallway.
The junior quarterback led Cass to Division I state championships as a freshman and sophomore. He’s been suspended for the first game of the 2014 season for slugging an opponent after a playoff loss in November.
Campbell has said he would attend Michigan State in 2015, although it’s not binding until he signs a commitment next year.
