RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota residents have been plunging into frigid waters to help raise money for the Special Olympics.

KOTA television reports (https://bit.ly/1cEkOEo ) that Sunday’s Polar Plunge event is in Spearfish. On Saturday, the Rapid City Polar Plunge drew 258 participants and raised $49,000.

Organizer and former Rapid City police lieutenant Dave Stratton says the events get people interested in Special Olympics.

He says Polar Plunge events have grown over the years, and they give the organization a chance to talk about the sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities.
