BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A Beaumont police officer has escaped serious injury after he was dragged briefly while unsuccessfully trying to prevent a woman from driving off in a patrol car.

Authorities say officers had responded to a domestic disturbance call Friday afternoon when a 21-year-old woman put her hand through a partially open window of a patrol car at the scene, unlocked the door and took off. The officer tried was dragged when he tried to stop her.

Police say the woman, described as under medication for a mental illness, wrecked the car a few minutes later.



She wasn’t seriously hurt but was taken to a hospital.
