FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The former head of the Alaska State Troopers will be the new police chief at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Keith Mallard will replace Sean McGee, who retired last spring.

Mallard has 19 years of law enforcement experience.



Mallard worked for the troopers for 16 years and his first assignment was in Fairbanks. He also worked assignments in Aniak and Anchorage. He had experience handling trooper dogs and later worked as a coordinator and trainer.

He was a member of the Special Emergency Response Team

He worked as deputy commander and commander of the Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement.

He rose to the rank of colonel and took command of the troopers in December 2010. He served as acting Public Safety commissioner from October to January.
