AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has been sentenced to six years in prison for a car crash that killed a pedestrian in Augusta two years ago.
Twenty-six-year-old Joshua A. Erskine of Windsor pleaded guilty in January to manslaughter and aggravated criminal operating under the influence in the death of 81-year-old Ruth Epperson.
Police say Erskine was high on pills and marijuana on March 30, 2012, and was driving about 17 mph over the 30-mph speed limit when he lost control of his Jeep and careened into Epperson, who was walking on a sidewalk. She died on April 5 in the hospital.
The Kennebec Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1e3iesD) that Erskine apologized to Epperson’s family during his sentencing on Friday.
