RESERVE, La. (AP) - The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board has approved calling a special election on May 3 to ask voters to renew two existing taxes and to approve borrowing $10 million to help with repairs to the storm damaged Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School in LaPlace

The school board adopted the election resolution during its meeting on Thursday in Reserve.

The district’s consulting company that is handling the negotiations with the Federal Emergency Management Agency reported Thursday that the agency is still reviewing the district’s application for disaster funds. FEMA has changed the deadline for determining St. John’s eligibility to May 20.



Spokeswoman Jennifer Boquet tells The Times-Picayune (https://bit.ly/1h5abeT ) the consultant estimates that the school could reopen in about two years, depending on the scope of work.
