GRETNA, La. (AP) - A 15-month-old boy was apparently beaten to death at his home in Metairie.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched Friday morning to an apartment to assist with a medical call and found Samej Batiste was not breathing.
The New Orleans Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1h7rRq5 ) paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene.
Col. John Fortunato says an autopsy found the child died from blunt force trauma and internal injuries, causing his death to be classified as a homicide.
No arrests have been made but Fortunato says detectives were interviewing the child’s mother, Alencia Batiste, and her boyfriend, Troy Kelley, both 27 years old.
