BOWLING GREEN, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are trying to determine what caused a van transporting eight inmates to crash in Caroline county.

Police say the driver was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Seven inmates were transported from the scene for treatment of minor injuries, and one was treated at the scene.

According to authorities, the eastbound 1994 Dodge Ram 350 passenger van went off the right side of a road and hit a tree Thursday afternoon.
