WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) - Woonsocket police have identified a man they say prompted a lockdown at Landmark Medical Center by bringing a gun to a hospital entrance and threatening to shoot himself.

Police said Friday 55-year-old Jose Giles of Burrillville fired a round from a .22-caliber rifle into the air when police approached him. No one was hurt, and Giles was taken into custody after about two hours.

Giles was still being held and could not be reached for comment. He was being arraigned Friday on weapons and resisting arrest charges.

Police say Giles drove his vehicle to the ambulance entrance of the hospital and threatened to commit suicide at 7 p.m. Thursday. Police say he was distraught over a family problem.

Giles was arrested around 9 p.m.
