WELDON SPRING, Mo. (AP) - A St. Louis-area man accused of fleeing Australia to escape child pornography charges is now charged with child porn possession in the U.S.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1h1F3Nr ) reports that 57-year-old Timothy Powers of Weldon Spring was charged Wednesday in St. Charles County. In addition to the child porn accusation he is charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
Police said Powers told officers he moved to Weldon Spring from Australia in October after being found guilty twice of possessing child pornography in that country.
Powers was jailed on $50,000 cash-only bond. Authorities say the bond was set high because Powers is considered a flight risk.
Online court records did not list an attorney for Powers on Thursday. His first court appearance is scheduled for next week.
