HOLLADAY, Utah (AP) - The Salt Lake City suburb of Holladay has become the latest Utah city to ban housing and employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Holladay City Council passed the ordinance on a 5-1 vote Thursday night to become the 20th local government in the state to do so.
Councilman Steven Gunn says while he found only one alleged case of discrimination against a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender person in Holladay, he supported the measure because discrimination has occurred elsewhere and he wants to prevent it from occurring in his city.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1edB9ME ) Gunn was unsuccessful in an attempt to pass an amendment clarifying the ordinance would not force business owners to provide goods and services for same-sex weddings against their wishes.
