MACKINAW CITY, Mich. (AP) - The Mackinac Bridge has reopened after a weather-related shutdown.
Certain vehicles still needed an escort Friday night due to strong winds and other risky conditions on the five-mile bridge connecting the Upper and Lower peninsulas.
Whiteout conditions were reported for much of the day in western Michigan and parts of the Upper Peninsula. A stretch of U.S. 2 near the Mackinac Bridge was closed due to weather conditions and poor visibility.
State police and other law enforcement groups had to untangle a series of crashes involving nearly 20 vehicles on U.S. 2. Some injuries were severe but not life-threatening.
