WYOMING, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say employees escaped injury after roofs collapsed under the weight of snow at two separate plants in the Grand Rapids area.

The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/OhRfQC ) firefighters in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming were alerted to a roof collapse at a building rented by Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Co. about 7:30 p.m. Thursday. An alarm sounded when a 50-by-100 foot section of flat roof caved in.

About 30 employees safely exited the building.

Around 9 p.m. in Grandville, firefighters were called to a building used as a paper processing facility for a recycling company. An alarm was also triggered by a roof collapse. All employees were accounted for, and no one was injured in the collapse.

Snow combined with rain has put more stress on snow-covered roofs.
