Developments at the Wyoming Legislature

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Developments at the Wyoming Legislature on Friday, Feb. 21, the 10th day of the 2014 Budget Session:

BUDGET BILL: Both the Wyoming House and Senate gave final approval to the general government appropriations bill after hearing dozens of amendments on each side. Legislative leaders say a conference committee will meet to resolve differences in the bills next week.

80 MPH SPEED LIMIT: The House for the second time approved a bill that would allow increasing the speed limit to 80 mph on certain stretches of interstate highway.

FISHING: The House for the second time approved to a bill that would call on the state game commission to set regulations allowing people to fish with the use of artificial light.

WINE: The House failed to act on a bill that would loosen restriction on the receipt of shipments of wine by Friday’s deadline for bills to get initial approval in their house of origin.

GUNS IN SCHOOLS: Two bills that would have allowed teachers or others to carry concealed firearms on school campuses failed pass Friday’s action deadline.

INVOLUNTARY HOSPITALIZATIONS: The Senate for the second time approved a bill that would change the law regarding the process for evaluating people hospitalized for mental health reasons. The bill would lengthen the amount of time a person could be held before their detention was reviewed in court.

BOOKING PHOTOS: The Senate for the second time approved a bill that would require entities that post jail booking photos on the Internet to remove them on request if a person could show they weren’t guilty of the charge for which they were arrested.
