WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) - The Chelan County, Wash., sheriff says two men have been found dead near a wrecked Jeep off a snowy Forest Service road in the Derby Canyon area in the western part of the county.
Sheriff Brian Burnett said Thursday that 50-year-old Ronald Schober of Peshastin told relatives he was going for a drive in the area on Wednesday. He and a male friend were seen leaving in an all-wheel-drive vehicle.
The two were reported overdue late Wednesday night and the wreckage was found Thursday, about 75 yards down a steep embankment off a primitive road.
The sheriff says snow on area roads was more than 2 feet deep in places.
He says he appears Schober lost traction while trying to drive up a slope on the road in deep wet snow.
The passenger was not immediately identified pending notification of relatives.
