LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - Bates College says a 21-year-old student from New Hampshire is missing in Rome.

The college said Friday that John Durkin, of Rye, N.H., was among six Bates students participating in a study-abroad program through Trinity College in Connecticut.

Friends traveling with the group said Durkin has not been seen for two days. They said he went out to a bar and never returned.

Durkin, who’s a linebacker on the football team, is a junior studying economics. Bates College spokeswoman Meg Kimmel says college officials have been in touch with Durkin’s parents, and said Durkin’s father is on his way to Italy.
