DAMASCUS, Va. (AP) - A southwest Virginia woman is facing a felony child abuse charge after authorities say her 3-year-old daughter ate methamphetamine left on a plate.
Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman says 26-year-old Kristina Marie Pennington of Damascus is also charged with one count of neglect of a child stemming from the January incident.
According the Bristol Herald Courier (https://bit.ly/Mds8ww), someone brought the meth to Pennington’s apartment and left a portion of the drug on a plate. The child was playing in the kitchen and swallowed some of the leftover meth.
The child’s father noticed she was acting abnormally and took her to a hospital. Doctors confirmed the child ingested the substance.
Pennington is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon.
