GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - The city of Gautier will hold a ceremony on Feb. 26 to kick-off construction of the Gautier Town Center, a $90 million commercial development at the site of the former Singing River Mall.
The Mississippi Press reports (https://bit.ly/1glLybL ) that the ceremony will launch the demolition phase of the existing 53-acre site. Mayor Gordon Gollott will host a champagne toast and golden sledgehammer ceremony at the north main entrance.
The development agreement for the building of the Gautier Town Center was approved by the city council last March.
The mall will be converted to an open air shopping venue by a complete reconfiguration of the layout. The demolished space will be replaced with the construction of over 380,000 square feet of open-air development. Wal-Mart will be one of the anchor retailers.
