SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors say a computer savvy drug dealer with customers spanning the globe was sentenced to 15 years in prison in Sacramento.
A federal judge issued the sentence against Shiraz Malik, a Pakistani national based in Poland, on Thursday. Prosecutors say Malik sold pharmaceuticals and highly regulated chemicals, including ephedrine, to customers in the United States, Europe, Mexico, and other countries between June 2008 and September 2011.
Ephedrine is a precursor chemical used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Malik allegedly used the Internet to take orders from around the world and had the drugs sent from Pakistan. The 36-year-old was arrested in the Czech Republic in 2012 and extradited to the United States after meeting with undercover U.S. agents posing as drug dealers.
He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy charges.
