Developments at the Wyoming Legislature

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Developments at the Wyoming Legislature on Thurs., Feb. 20, the ninth day of the 2014 Budget Session:

80 MPH SPEED LIMIT: The House gave initial approval to a bill that would allow increasing the speed limit to 80 mph on certain stretches of interstate highway.

FISHING: The House gave initial approval to a bill that would call on the state game commission to set regulations allowing people to fish with the use of artificial light.

FIRES: The House gave initial approval to a bill that would make it a misdemeanor for a person intentionally to leave the vicinity of a fire that had been under their control.

STATE PARKS: The Senate received a bill that already has passed the House that would put state parks law enforcement officers on the state law enforcement pension plan.

WINE: The House placed on its general file for later action a bill that would loosen restriction on the receipt of shipments of wine.

FIREWORKS: The house gave initial approval to a bill that would allow county commissions to regulate the sale of fireworks through resolutions.

INVOLUNTARY HOSPITALIZATIONS: The Senate gave preliminary approval to a bill that would change the law regarding the process for evaluating people hospitalized for mental health reasons. The bill would lengthen the amount of time a person could be held before their detention was reviewed in court.

BOOKING PHOTOS: The House gave initial approval to a bill that would require entities that post jail booking photos on the Internet to remove them on request if a person could show they weren’t guilty of the charge for which they were arrested.
