DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines police officer and a woman he was helping have been hurt in separate accidents on a slick road.

The Des Moines Register says (https://dmreg.co/1jLaSKK ) the woman’s car had been disabled and the officer was giving her a ride when the first accident occurred around 8 a.m. Wednesday near Prospect Park. Another car slid across the center line and hit the officer’s patrol car. The woman in the officer’s car was taken to a hospital.

As the officer and the other driver talked, another car slid toward them. Police say the officer jumped onto the hood of a car to safety but hurt his back when he slid off the hood.

No charges have been reported in either accident.
