METAMORA, Ill. (AP) - Woodcut images, prints and posters from early in the Civil War will be on display at the historic courthouse in Metamora.
The images are from a book produced by noted publisher Frank Leslie entitled, “The Pictorial History of the War of 1861.”
The book is from the early months of the war when it was misnamed by optimists who thought the four-year conflagration would only last a few months.
The book was given to the state historic site by the Peoria Public Library.
Many of its images have deteriorated but the best - large woodcuts, double-page prints and even posters - will be on display in the site’s main display room.
The courthouse is one of two surviving in which Abraham Lincoln practiced law during his circuit-riding days.
