ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Highway Patrol is urging drivers to use extreme caution while driving through foggy conditions.

A dense fog advisory was issued Saturday evening for 15 counties in the Tampa Bay and southwest Florida region. The advisory expired Sunday at 9 a.m., but the National Weather Service says areas of dense fog will continue through the morning and over coastal waters through much of the day.

The Skyway Bridge was closed due to poor visibility Sunday at about 5 a.m. It was reopened three hours later.

The FHP is warning drivers that visibility can change within seconds. The agency advises motorists to drive with lights on low beam, slow down, use wipers and defrosters and signal well in advance of a turn while driving through a foggy area.
