RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The head of the Vermont State Fair has been removed from his post and the organization is conducting an internal audit.
The Board of Trustees of the Rutland County Agricultural Society voted at a special meeting Feb. 8 to remove Richard Rivers from his posts as the organization’s president and as general manager of the fair, the Rutland Herald reported (https://bit.ly/1fdj0ET).
When asked about the change, the group’s attorney, Stacy Chapman, only said an internal audit was underway and results would be presented to the society’s membership in the coming months.
The board appointed Roger Pike as interim president.
Rivers referred questions to his attorney, Matthew Hart, who did not respond immediately after hours for comment.
In a Dec. 11 letter, Richards told the membership that the 2012-13 financial statements had not yet been audited because of a “family emergency/family death,” but the unaudited statements showed a $25,000 profit for the fiscal year ending Oct. 31, 2013, the newspaper reported.
