HANOVER, Va. (AP) - Police investigating a cold case slaying in Hanover County are asking the public for help.

Twenty-seven-year-old Russell D. Franklin was found dead in his car on Aug. 14, 2004, by a deputy on routine patrol. Police say Franklin had died from a gunshot wound to the chest before the car ran off the road and hit a privacy fence in a parking lot.

Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Chris R. Whitley said Wednesday that two significant leads have been developed, along with other new information. Forensic evidence also is being re-evaluated.

Whitley says in a news release that investigators believe several people in the metro Richmond area could have information that would help to solve the case.
