KILGORE, Texas (AP) - Investigators are trying to determine if a domestic dispute led an East Texas man to kill his sister-in-law and then officers fatally shot him.
Four Kilgore police officers and a Gregg County sheriff’s deputy were on paid leave Wednesday.
Autopsy results are pending on 32-year-old Elizabeth Vinson and 37-year-old Randy Vinson, both of Kilgore. He’s the brother of her husband.
Investigators say Elizabeth Vinson was in a vehicle outside her house Tuesday when she was shot by Randy Vinson. He fled into some woods but emerged and exchanged gunfire with officers, who fatally shot him.
No officers were hurt.
Assistant police Chief Roman Roberson says Randy Vinson had lived at the victim’s home. Roberson declined to elaborate. The victim’s sister, Lucretia Burdwell, says the family recently kicked Randy Vinson out.
