OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma appeals court has rejected the appeal of a 31-year-old woman who was sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing death of a 25-year-old man.
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals handed down the decision Wednesday in the case of Amanda Hunter. Hunter was found guilty of first-degree murder by an Oklahoma County jury in the June 12, 2011, stabbing death of Osmani Enrique Chicas Melgar.
Prosecutors alleged Hunter was a prostitute who knew Melgar was a drug dealer. They alleged she went to his apartment to rob him of drugs and money, partially wrapping him in plastic wrap before stabbing him to death. Defense attorneys argued Hunter acted in self-defense.
Hunter’s appellate attorney, Marva Banks of the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office, declined comment on the ruling.
