SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Prosecutors have cleared a Unified police officer who shot a man after he fired at officers after an encounter at a bank.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1gT6itx ) that Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has cleared officer Dustin Olzack of any wrongdoing in the Feb. 6 incident. Gill determined Olzak was justified in shooting the man because there was a threat of serious harm.

The shooting occurred at a Salt Lake City bank after officers arrived to reports of 33-year-old Michael Joseph trying to cash a forged check. Joseph fled the bank when police arrived. He fired three times at officers as he fled.

Joseph’s criminal record includes weapons violations and other charges.
