FORREST CITY, Ark. (AP) - A judge has dismissed first-degree murder charges filed against an Arkansas man accused in a 2013 slaying in Forrest City.

First Judicial District Judge L.T. Simes granted prosecutors’ request Tuesday to drop murder charges against Jeremy Buchanan, who was initially charged in the shooting death of 21-year-old Joey Rucker.

Deputy Prosecutor Chris Morledge said in a court motion that prosecutors could no longer prove their case against Buchanan beyond a reasonable doubt. According to The Times-Herald (https://bit.ly/1fdvQTH ) prosecutors said they learned that witness statements included in an affidavit were later discovered to be untrue.

Rucker died from a single gunshot wound to the chest in January 2013.
