ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say charges have been dropped against a man accused of hitting a pedestrian on an interstate and fleeing the scene.

Investigators say the driver was charged with homicide by vehicle and driving with an expired license in the Tuesday night crash. Atlanta police Officer John Chafee has said the victim was on the left shoulder of the southbound lanes of the downtown connecter and tried to cross those lanes. The connecter is the merging point for Interstates 75 and 85.

Police have said the driver told investigators that he couldn’t see the victim in enough time to stop his car.

Authorities say the man was struck by several cars and died on the freeway. Two cars stopped and remained on the scene.

The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.
