DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the shooting of an Atlanta police officer nearly two years ago.
DeKalb County Judge Linda Hunter sentenced Cameron Maddox to serve 30 years in prison followed by 20 years on probation.
Authorities say Maddox climbed onto a rooftop in Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood in March 2012 and used a stolen .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun to shoot at Officer Dexter Toomer. He also fired at four people as they traveled in a vehicle on a nearby road.
Toomer was struck in his leg. He was released from the hospital the next day.
