ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 22-year-old Anchorage man has died from injuries he suffered after being shot outside an East Anchorage apartment complex last month.

Anchorage police say in a Wednesday statement that Jermaine Twiley died Sunday in an Anchorage hospital.

Talon Draper was arrested on assault charges following the shooting early the morning of Jan. 7

At the time, the 19-year-old Draper told police he heard what sounded like a fight between a woman and a man, who was later identified as Twiley.

Draper told police he grabbed a rifle, opened his door and ordered a fleeing Twiley to stop. He said he shot Twiley when he saw him reach down with his hands.

Detectives continue to investigate the case.
