MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - Family members have identified the teenager killed in a late-night house fire in Marshalltown.

Relatives told the Marshalltown Times Republican (https://bit.ly/1fgMm3E ) that 16-year-old Michael Waltemeyer died in the blaze, which was reported to firefighters about 11:15 p.m. Monday.

Three other family members were able to escape the fire, which destroyed the older, two-story home.

Michael’s aunt, Joann Willitis, says the family was asleep when the fire started.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping to determine the cause of the fire. Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tubber says it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

Michael was a sophomore at Marshalltown High School. Principal Aiddy Phomvisay says they plan to have more staff and counselors at the school to assist students.
