DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Email and Internet service has been down for many state government workers in the Capitol, including Gov. Terry Branstad.

Department of Administrative Services spokesman Caleb Hunter says the service loss started Tuesday afternoon at around 3 p.m. It was caused by a power outage at the government building that houses the state data servers. A backup system failed to work.

Hunter says the cause of the outage wasn’t known. All email for the executive branch employees was down and was expected to stay that way for some time.
